Event Day PLANNING

Ways to Ride

Bike to the Beach offers four (4) methods to ride:

  • Solo (on a bike by yourself),
  • Tandem (on a bike with another person),
  • Relay (switching at the halfway point), or
  • Virtually (ride your distance anytime in a 7-day period).

In a relay, one rider will bike the first leg. At the half-way meeting point, the second rider will bike the remaining portion of the ride. Only one exchange is allowed, and participants must provide their own chase vehicles.

Our virtual challenge starts the week before our event and is comprised of seven (7) daily, trackable challenges designed to be fun, engaging, and supportive of our cause. Each challenge participant will receive points for the actions taken. If the participant reaches 1,000 points, rides their goal distance (tracked by STRAVA) and raises $250, they will earn our custom Bike to the Beach jersey and finisher shirt.

IMPORTANT:

THERE WILL BE NO SIGNS ON THE ROUTE

Due to various challenges such as local event restrictions, escalating expenses, and the removal of signs along our route, we have decided not to utilize signs for marking turns this year. However, we understand the importance of ensuring a smooth navigation experience for all participants. To address this concern, we are excited to announce our partnership with Ride With GPS. Through this collaboration, riders will have exclusive access to a range of comprehensive Ride with GPS features, including turn-by-turn directions. This feature will provide real-time guidance throughout the event, eliminating any confusion or potential navigational difficulties. Additionally, riders will be able to utilize offline navigation, which not only facilitates easier readability but also conserves battery life and circumvents any data usage. With this upgraded navigation solution, we aim to enhance the overall experience for our participants by providing a seamless and reliable navigation platform. By leveraging the Ride With GPS technology, we believe that riders will have a clearer understanding of their routes, allowing them to fully focus on the event and enjoy the ride without any distractions.

MEDICAL/ Mechanical support

This is a fully supported ride with mechanics, chase cars, medics and ride guides to support your journey.

We will include an Emergency Bracelet at the starting line with important phone numbers. Please wear this bracelet to ensure that you can reach ride support and basic first-aid care when it is needed.

CALL 911 for all actual medical emergencies.

Our logistics team prides itself on our support and response time. If at any point in the ride you need mechanical sup- port, call one of the provided phone numbers, and we will come assist you.

There are three levels of issues on ride day:

  • Minor issues: Flat tires and other small adjustments can typically be fixed in a few minutes on site.
  • Mid-Complexity issues: For wheel or brake issues, we
will commonly shuttle you to the next available rest
stop. This allows our professional team of mechanics
the space, time, and resources they need to work
    through your bike’s issues.
  • Major issues: For significant issues that arise on the ride, we may swap out your bike or exchange a part, putting you on our equipment so that you can continue the ride without having to stop. There is limited capacity to address major issues, but such issues will be addressed when possible.
  • Please ensure that you have tire irons, bike tubes, a CO2 cartridge or pump with you throughout the ride and that you start the ride on equipment that is ready for a long ride (i.e. – do not start the ride with tires with holes in them, etc.).
  • If you are starting at our 100-mile starting line, there will NOT be mechanic support at the starting line, so it is important that your bike is “ready-to-ride” when you start the event. The mechanic team will be positioned at the 1st rest stop and on the route. This policy ensures that we leave at the planned start time and our mechanic support team is able to support the riders on the road as soon as the event starts.

The safety of our riders is our top priority at all of our events. We are proud to partner with Moto Medx. They have quali- fied and clinically experienced Registered Nurses, Paramed- ics, and Emergency Medical Technicians ready to deliver reliable medical support for our events.

Bike Safely

When you Bike to the Beach, you’ll be riding on cycling-friendly roads, but you’ll share these roads with other cyclists, cars, and pedestrians. Cycling safely is essential because you’re navigating in the real world, where everyone’s awareness and respect for the rules keep everyone safe. As a cyclist, you have the same rights—and responsibilities—as drivers, so understanding the rules of the road is crucial. Brush up on hand signals, ride etiquette, and essential cycling safety tips with these helpful resources to ensure a smooth, safe, and enjoyable ride.

SAG Support

We have SAG (“Support and Gear”) vehicles along the route to assist you in any way needed. You will be given a BLUE bracelet with important numbers, including road support and EMS support.

Please ensure that you have tire irons, bike tubes, a CO2 cartridge or pump with you throughout the ride and that you start the ride on equipment that is ready for a long ride (i.e. – do not start the ride with tires with holes in them, etc.).

If you are starting at our 100-mile starting line, there will NOT be mechanic support at the starting line, so it is important that your bike is “ready-to-ride” when you start the event. The mechanic team will be positioned at the 1st rest stop and on the route. This policy ensures that we leave at the planned start time and our mechanic support team is able to support the riders on the road as soon as the event starts.

Post-Ride Planning

GETTING HOME FROM THE FINISH

We will offer bus transportation to take riders to each starting-line location after the event. Unlimited Biking will be providing transportation services for easy bike return. Transportation can be purchased at registration or added later.

FINISH LINE TRANSPORTATION DEADLINES

One busis available (with a stop at each starting line) at 4:00 pm on ride day. Buses will stop at the 25, 50, and 70 mile start-lines, as well. Please report to the bus loading area by 3:30 PM to ensure a timely departure.

Unlimited Biking is managing the bike transportation associated with the bus.

Bus transportation must be reserved and paid for online before midnight on April 16, 2025. The cost (which includes BOTH bus and bike transportation)is:

3/1/25

4/1/25

50,70,100-Mile Start

$50

$70

25 Mile Start

$30

$50

Ensuring the bus leaves on-time:

If you are scheduled to ride the bus, it is important to maintain a cycling pace that allows you to arrive by 3:30 PM. If you are unable to do so, you MUST contact ride support and arrange to be moved forward by one of our SAG vehicles.

This is your responsibility. We highly advise calling early in the ride, rather than later, if your pace will result in a finish time after 3:30 PM. For example, request a pickup to move from Rest Stop 4 to Rest Stop 6, so you can ride the last leg on your own, rather than riding to Rest Stop 5 and then being taken to the finish. To keep our SAG vehicles available on the road, we will have more SAG vehicles available for rest stop-to-rest stop transportation than for rest stop-to-finish-line transportation.

Bike Loading for Bus Transportation

Bikes will be transported in a truck that follows the bus. It is crucial to keep the bikes meant for bus transportation separate from those riders will take home on their own.

After completing your ride, hand your bike directly to the Unlimited Biking team. They will be managing the bike transportation service this year.

  • Ensure your bike is labeled with the correct information: Your name, Your start location, Your bus number
  • Placement of Bikes: Make sure your bike is placed in the designated area for loading onto the bus trucks. This step is critical for on-time departure and ensuring your bike returns with you.

BIKE PACKING AND PROTECTION

Bike to the Beach, in partnership with Unlimited Biking, will take every precaution to protect bikes during transportation, typically wrapping them in moving blankets and/or securing them to prevent movement.

Our team and volunteers handle your bike with care while loading and transporting it. If you’re concerned about potential scratches, we encourage you to bring extra packing materials to further protect or pack your bike yourself.

Please note that Bike to the Beach is NOT responsible for any damage to bikes or bike accessories incurred during transportation. We strongly recommend that you remove any accessories from your bike prior to loading.
