Ride Options 🚲

Hosted with Patapsco Bicycles Elkridge.

Start your Bike to the Beach training with a beautiful ride along the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail.

Start Location

BWI – Thomas A. Dixon Jr. Observation Area (Map): 1911 Dorsey Rd, Glen Burnie, MD 21061

  • Check-in: 7:30 AM
  • Ride start: 8:30 AM

Route Options

  • 22 mile route
  • 40 mile route

Both routes are great tools to help you prepare – whether you’re just getting started or looking to push your limits a bit further. Choose the option that fits your current fitness level, and as always, ride within your comfort zone.

Key Differences:

  • Distance: 22 miles vs. 40 miles
  • Terrain: Short route stays fully on the trail; long route includes road riding
  • Difficulty: Short = more beginner-friendly; Long = more advanced endurance effort
  • Experience: Long route introduces real-world riding conditions like traffic awareness and varied pacin

22-Mile Route (Short Option)

This is a straightforward out-and-back ride entirely on the trail. It’s mostly flat, fully paved, and free from vehicle traffic, making it a great option for newer riders or anyone looking for a steady, controlled effort.

Best for:

  • Building a base level of endurance
  • Practicing pacing and cadence
  • Riders who prefer a low-stress environment

40-Mile Route (Short Option)

This route builds on the shorter option by adding mileage and more variety. Riders will start on the trail, transition onto public roads, reconnect to a dedicated path, and continue to the turnaround at 7-Eleven before heading back.

Best for:

  • Increasing endurance and ride distance
  • Gaining experience riding on open roads
  • Practicing fueling and hydration during longer efforts
